Dr Maki Kimura is an Associate Professor (Teaching) in Gender and Politics at the Department of Political Science , University College London (UCL). She previously held positions as a Research Fellow at the University of East London and the Open University, specializing in equality and diversity in higher education. Kimura is a member of the UCL Race Equality Steering Group and actively advocates for intersectional gender equality, peace, and anti-militarism through collaborations with civil society organizations. Kimura earned a BA and MA in Political Science from Waseda University, Japan, and completed her PhD at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Her doctoral research explored Japan’s military sexual slavery during WWII, focusing on victim-survivor voices and intersectional oppressions of gender, race, colonialism, and militarism.
