Walner Osna is a Part-Time Professor in the Department of Sociological and Anthropological Studies at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Social Sciences. His research focuses on food sovereignty, land grabbing, peasant resistance, and decolonial theories, with a regional emphasis on Haiti. He holds a Master’s in Sociology (2020) and a Pedagogy attestation (2020) from the University of Ottawa, alongside academic training from the State University of Haiti.
Teaching: Osna teaches courses such as 'Construire le raisonnement sociologique' (SOC1701), 'Introduction à la méthodologie qualitative' (S0C2715), and 'Sociologie de l'alimentation' (SOC2502). Office hours are held weekly in FSS-10056-P1 and VNR2008.
Research: His doctoral work examines food sovereignty and land grabbing in Haiti’s northern regions, funded by Canadian grants. Collaborations include projects with Carleton University and Haitian-Canadian researchers. Fieldwork expertise includes Haiti, analyzing megaprojects like the Île-à-Vache ecotourism initiative.
Engagement: Osna has been involved with social justice organizations like the Karl Levêque Cultural Institute, the Kolektif Jistis Min, and academic groups such as GRITE (Extractivism Research) and COMIR (Migration & Racisms).
