Hans Martin Rux-Brachtendorf is Professor of Baroque Trumpet at the Würzburg University of Music, appointed in February 2024. He also maintains a teaching position at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMdK). As a specialist in historical brass performance, he represents a significant addition to the faculty specializing in early music performance practice. Rux-Brachtendorf's research and performance interests focus on historical trumpet techniques, particularly Baroque-era performance practices. His expertise spans authentic interpretation of Baroque repertoire, historical brass instrument construction and acoustics, and the stylistic nuances of 17th and 18th century trumpet music. His work bridges historical scholarship with contemporary performance, emphasizing the connection between historical context and modern interpretation. Professor Rux-Brachtendorf maintains an active performing career with several prominent early music ensembles. He is a permanent member of Collegium 1704 (Prague), the Bach Academy Stuttgart, the FBO, and Concerto Köln. His extensive discography includes over 200 CD recordings featuring both ensemble work and significant solo performances of Baroque repertoire including Bach's Second Brandenburg Concerto, the complete Telemann trumpet concertos, and Biber's Sonatae Tam Aris, as well as numerous solo roles in Bach's cantatas. His educational background includes modern trumpet studies with Edmund Buschinger in Düsseldorf and historical trumpet training with Friedemann Immer at the Cologne University of Music, followed by postgraduate studies in early music at the Hilversum University of Music. His professional development was significantly influenced by his early role as principal trumpet player at Musica Antiqua Cologne.
