Dr. Hien Thi Nguyen is a Research Fellow at Edith Cowan University's Social Ageing (SAGE) Futures Lab and Project Manager for the international Decentering Migration Knowledge (DEMIKNOW) Project. She holds a PhD from the University of Western Australia (2023) and a Master of Development Studies from the University of Melbourne (2015), with extensive experience in mixed-methods research across 50+ projects. Her work focuses on migration and ageing, particularly transnational grandparent migration, digital kinning, and gender equality. Education: PhD in Anthropology, Sociology, and Social Work, University of Western Australia, 2023 Master of Development Studies (Gender and Development), University of Melbourne, 2015 Research Interests: Vietnamese migrant wellbeing, ICT in ageing, gender and marriage ideologies in Vietnam, and community development. Notable contributions include conceptualizing 'digital homing' and advancing culturally sensitive ageing indices for Southeast Asian migrants. Awards: 2023 HDR/ECR Scholarship for International Congress of Sociology 2022 Postgraduate Travel Award (UWA) Multiple recognitions from Vietnamese Consulate General and DFAT scholarships Projects: Leads ECU's Social Frailty Index project ($39,945) and the DEMIKNOW initiative ($31,934). Collaborates with UN agencies and NGOs on women's empowerment and migrant care. Labs/Teams: Core member of SAGE Futures Lab; co-convenor of TASA’s Ageing and Sociology Thematic Group.
