Dr. Kylie Radford is a Conjoint Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) School of Psychology and a Research Fellow leading the Aboriginal Health and Ageing Group at Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA). She completed her PhD in Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Sydney in 2010 and has since established herself as a leading researcher in dementia and cognitive aging among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Dr. Radford's research focuses on understanding social and biomedical risk factors for cognitive decline and dementia, with particular emphasis on promoting healthy brain aging in collaboration with urban and rural Aboriginal communities. Her work spans several key areas including early onset dementia, cognitive rehabilitation for acquired brain injuries, mild cognitive impairment, epilepsy, and population brain ageing. She has extensive experience with various research methodologies such as randomized controlled trials, multicenter studies, longitudinal observational cohort studies, and psychometric instrument development and validation.
Since 2009, Dr. Radford has been actively involved with the Koori Growing Old Well Study (KGOWS), an epidemiological study investigating aging and dementia in urban and regional Aboriginal communities in New South Wales. Her current NHMRC-ARC Dementia Research Development Fellowship supports her work in understanding social and biomedical risk factors for cognitive decline and dementia among Indigenous populations.
Dr. Radford's recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on culturally appropriate dementia care models, risk factor identification among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and the development of culturally safe assessment tools. Her work consistently emphasizes community collaboration and culturally grounded approaches to research and intervention, with a particular emphasis on co-designing healthcare solutions with Indigenous communities.
Dr. Radford leads the Aboriginal Health and Ageing Group at NeuRA, which works closely with Aboriginal communities to develop and implement culturally appropriate approaches to healthy aging and dementia prevention. Her research program exemplifies the importance of community-led research in addressing health disparities among Indigenous populations, with findings that directly inform policy and practice in Indigenous dementia care across Australia.
