Dr. Jiachen Zhuo is Associate Professor in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where she also serves as Director of Clinical MR Physics and Co-Director of the MR Fellowship. Education: BS, Electronics and Information Science and Technology, Peking University, 2000 MS, Electrical Engineering, University of Pittsburgh, 2002 PhD, Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Maryland College Park, 2011 Research Interests: Dr. Zhuo’s laboratory focuses on cutting-edge MRI technology development and clinical translation, with emphases on diffusion kurtosis imaging, advanced tongue-muscle imaging, motion-correction strategies, traumatic brain injury biomarkers, and MR-guided focused ultrasound interventions. Her work integrates high-resolution structural and functional imaging with computational modeling to understand neural and muscular mechanisms underlying speech production and neurotrauma. Scientific Awards: Best Paper Award, IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (2014) Grants & Funding: Dr. Zhuo has served as PI or MPI on grants exceeding $3.7 million from NIH and industry partners, including an R01 investigating tongue and muscle function after cancer surgery using 4D MRI and DTI, and an NINDS-funded longitudinal study of sub-thalamic changes after mild traumatic brain injury. Labs & Teams: She leads the Clinical MR Physics group within the Center for Advanced Imaging Research (CAIR), mentoring trainees and collaborating across radiology, neurosurgery, neurology, and biomedical engineering departments to advance quantitative imaging techniques into clinical practice.
