Paul Avery is a Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Florida with an office in room 2029 NPB. He conducts research in Experimental High Energy Physics and is actively involved with the CMS experiment at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland, and previously with the CLEO experiment at Cornell University. His research encompasses the measurement of Higgs to 4 leptons ("Golden channel"), decays of heavy quarks, and advanced computing techniques including object-oriented methods and fitting algorithms. He has made significant contributions to distributed computing and Computational Grids through his leadership in the GriPhyN initiative and other major projects. Dr. Avery served as Principal Investigator for the ExTENCI project and was Director of two NSF-funded Grid projects: GriPhyN and the International Virtual Data Grid Laboratory (iVDGL). He has also been co-Principal Investigator for CHEPREO, UltraLight, PLaNetS, and DISUN. As a founding member of the Open Science Grid consortium, he helped establish an international Grid infrastructure connecting approximately 100 laboratory and university sites. At the University of Florida, Dr. Avery chairs the Research Computing Advisory Committee and contributes to multiple national Grid computing initiatives. The university serves as a Tier-2 computing center for CMS analysis and hosts one of the largest university CMS groups in the United States, with members involved in physics analysis, construction, trigger systems, software development, and theoretical work.
