Associate Professor Safat Al-Deen is an academic staff member at the School of Engineering and Information Technology , University of New South Wales (UNSW) Canberra . His research focuses on sustainable and resilient infrastructure , with specific interests in green concrete , composite structures , recycling waste as construction materials , and structural materials under extreme conditions . Research Interests : Al-Deen's work aims to develop infrastructure systems that balance economic , social , and environmental sustainability . He investigates how waste materials can be converted into practical construction applications and studies the behavior of materials under extreme conditions like jet exhaust , fire , and thermal shocks . Article Trends : His recent publications highlight advancements in low-carbon concrete , geopolymer composites , and extreme condition durability . Key themes include waste recycling , resource efficiency , and structural optimization for sustainability. Grants : Al-Deen has secured funding for projects such as "Develop jet exhaust and fuel damage resistant concrete for airfield aprons" (sponsored by the Department of Defence) and "Study on effectiveness of rigid safety barrier, made of high energy absorbing Crumb Rubber Concrete (CRC), on improving road safety" (funded by the Road Safety Innovation Fund). Education : He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Sydney, an MSc in Structural Engineering from the University of Tokyo, and a BSc in Civil Engineering (Honours) from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology.
