Dr. Andrew Tizzard is an Associate Professor in Bioengineering at Middlesex University, where he has been affiliated since 1986. His expertise spans Biomedical Engineering, Medical Imaging, and Computational Modeling, with a focus on Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) applications in neonatal lung function and brain imaging. Previously, he worked as a Teaching Company Associate with Imperial College and Phillips (UK) Ltd, and as a Manufacturing/Design Engineer for Ministry of Defence contractors.
Dr. Tizzard earned a BSc in Mechanical Engineering with Biomedical specialism from Brunel University, followed by an MSc in Computing from Imperial College, and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Middlesex University. His research has led to significant advancements in finite element mesh warping, dynamic boundary measurement, and medical device development.
His recent publications (2017-2022) emphasize patient-specific thorax modeling, neonatal EIT applications, and colorectal cancer detection. He supervises doctoral researcher David Booth (PhD, enrolled since 2020). Dr. Tizzard is a Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Engineering Designers.
