Wolfgang Sannwald is an Honorary Professor at the Ludwig Uhland Institute for Empirical Cultural Studies, Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, affiliated with the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. Since 2018, he has held this role while concurrently serving as Head of Public Relations, Archives, and Culture at the Tübingen District Office, a position he has maintained since 2004. He earned his Magister (1987) and PhD (1993) in History from the University of Tübingen, with his dissertation focusing on 17th-century hospitals in Southwest Germany. His career includes extensive archival work as Kreisarchivar (District Archivist) since 1991 and leadership in cultural projects. His research explores spatial and historical methodologies within cultural studies, emphasizing public knowledge transfer. Key interests include: Culture of Remembrance : How societies memorialize historical events like WWII and the Holocaust. Migration & Integration : Dynamics of refugee resettlement and community cohesion. Archival Science : Modernizing administrative record-keeping (e.g., Kommunaler Aktenplan '21). Homeland Narratives : Construction of local identity through museums and oral histories. Publications (2013–2022) reflect interdisciplinary work in cultural memory, archival reform, and migration, often linking historical scholarship with contemporary social issues like refugee integration and digital archiving. He directs two major initiatives: Youth Guide Training (since 2012), which educates young people about local Nazi crimes, and tünews INTERNATIONAL (since 2015), a multilingual news service for refugees that reached ~5M views in 2022. He also leads KulturGUT e.V. and develops exhibitions on regional history.
