Marie-Paule Cani is a Professor of Computer Science at Ecole Polytechnique (since May 2017), on leave from Grenoble INP & Inria. She previously served as Professor at Grenoble INP since 1997, with promotion to Exceptional Class in 2010. She received her M.Sc. in Computer Science from Ecole Normale Supérieure & University Paris XI in 1987, her Ph.D. in Computer Graphics from University Paris XI in 1990 (under advisor Claude Puech), and her Habilitation in Computer Science from Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble in 1995. Her research focuses on advancing intuitive methods for creating 3D shapes in motion and organizing them into complex virtual worlds. Her methodology emphasizes 'Control to the user, Knowledge to the models!' She has contributed significantly to high-level models for shapes and motion including implicit surfaces, multi-resolution physically-based animation, and hybrid representations for real-time natural scenes. Awards and Recognition Member of Academia Europaea (2013) Silver medal from CNRS (2012) EUROGRAPHICS award for Outstanding Technical Contributions (2011) Advanced grant from ERC (2011) Irène Juliot Curie national award (2007) Junior member of Institut Universitaire de France (1999) She has served extensively in the academic community, becoming President of Eurographics in 2017 after serving as Vice President (2013-2016), Technical Paper Chair of ACM SIGGRAPH 2017, and member of the ACM Publication Board (2011-2014). She has advised 19 PhD students and published 42 journal papers, 2 textbooks, 4 book chapters, 61 conference papers, and holds 3 patents.
