Dr. Rui Ramos Cardoso serves as a Senior Lecturer in Aerospace Engineering and Postgraduate Research (PGR) Director at Brunel University London. He is affiliated with the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering within the College of Engineering, Design and Physical Sciences. His academic leadership extends to serving as Course Director for Undergraduate Aerospace Engineering programs. Dr. Cardoso's research expertise spans multiple areas of computational mechanics and structural analysis: Computational Mechanics for Structural Analysis Finite Element Method and Meshless Methods IsoGeometric Analysis with Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines (NURBS) Modelling of Plasticity, Crystal Plasticity and Multi-Scale Modelling Modelling of Metal Forming Processes, Additive Layer Manufacturing, and Cold Spray Processes Development of Innovative Numerical Methods His teaching portfolio includes fundamental courses in Solid Body Mechanics, Aerodynamics, Aircraft Design, and Aircraft Structures, reflecting his expertise in aerospace engineering principles and applications. Dr. Cardoso's research publications demonstrate a consistent focus on advancing computational methods for structural analysis, with particular emphasis on aircraft structures, material behavior under various conditions, and innovative numerical approaches to engineering problems. Dr. Cardoso actively supervises PhD students on research topics including: Modelling of texture evolution during production of high strength 6xxx aluminium alloys Simulation and experimental research of different bending processes The scaling of nonlinear structural dynamics and aeroelastic systems He is associated with the IMM research group and maintains strong collaborative relationships with researchers such as Mayo Adetoro, Hamid Bahai, and Mian Zhou, demonstrating his active engagement in the academic community.
