Dr. Behrad Koohbor is an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering at Rowan University's Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering. He directs the Mechanics of Advanced Materials Lab, researching experimental mechanics, multifunctional composites, and additive manufacturing processes. His work focuses on understanding process-structure-property-performance relationships in novel materials, particularly functionally graded materials and cold spray additive manufacturing.
Dr. Koohbor holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of South Carolina and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's Beckman Institute. His current projects investigate gradient optimization in materials for enhanced fracture resistance and energy absorption applications.
Research expertise includes:
- Multiscale characterization of density-graded materials
- Impact mechanics of elastomeric foams and composites
- Cold spray deposition and repair of polymer composites
- 3D printing of functional metamaterials
He maintains active grants from NSF and NJ Health Foundation, and has published extensively in journals including International Journal of Impact Engineering, Composite Structures, and Advanced Engineering Materials. His laboratory develops advanced experimental techniques for multiphysics characterization of materials under extreme conditions.
