Ola Larsson is a Principal Researcher and Head of the Department of Oncology-Pathology at Karolinska Institutet , Sweden. Since July 2025, he has led this department, focusing on translational control in cancer biology. His research explores how dysregulated mRNA translation drives oncogenesis and tumor microenvironment dynamics. Key Research Themes: mTOR signaling, stress responses, epigenetic regulation, and metabolic adaptation in cancer. Methodological Contributions: Co-developed anota , anota2seq , and NOMAD for translational profiling. Recent Work spans breast cancer mechanotransduction, pancreatic tumor translation programs, and stress-induced reprogramming in neurodevelopmental and metabolic diseases. His Nature (2025) study on the integrated stress response highlights translational plasticity in cancer, while Brain (2025) links TSC2 loss to neurodevelopmental transcript suppression. Collaborative efforts include tumor-stromal interactions in Nature Reviews Cancer (2023) and metabolic control via Cell Metabolism (2022) studies. Leadership includes heading the Department of Oncology-Pathology since 2025 and serving as a Docent at Karolinska Institutet since 2016. His Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (2020) work on MNK2 in macrophages and Nature (2013) on TP53 mutations underscore his translational expertise.
