Professor Meropi Kontogianni is a Clinical Nutrition expert at the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Harokopio University. Her work focuses on the prevention and management of nutritional and metabolic complications in chronic diseases, particularly metabolic syndrome, non-communicable diseases, and liver cirrhosis. She holds a PhD (2004) and BSc (1998) from Harokopio University. Her research emphasizes dietary patterns' role in disease prevention, adipokine-inflammation interactions, and malnutrition assessment methodologies. Notable studies include the MIMOSA trial (2021) on Mediterranean diet interventions for sleep apnea and the KIRRHOS series (2019-2020) evaluating malnutrition screening in cirrhosis patients. Publications span clinical trials, dietary guidelines, and biomarker research, with a focus on obesity, sarcopenia, and cancer cachexia. She collaborates internationally on projects like the EORTC Communication Questionnaire validation (2024) and the BIO-STREAM anti-obesity framework. Key areas of interest include Mediterranean diet efficacy, telemedicine applications in chronic disease management, and the implementation of global malnutrition criteria (GLIM) in clinical practice.
