Adam Lock is a Professor and Associate Chair for Farm Operations in the Department of Animal Science at Michigan State University, where he leads the Dairy Lipids Nutrition Program. He holds a BS (Hons) and PhD from the University of Nottingham, UK, and completed postdoctoral work at Cornell University. His research bridges dairy production and human nutrition, specializing in fatty acid metabolism, milk fat synthesis, and dietary strategies to optimize dairy cattle health and productivity. Research Focus Lock's work centers on: Fatty acid digestion/metabolism in dairy cows Biohydrogenation intermediates and milk fat depression Omega-3 fatty acids for cattle health Human health impacts of dairy lipids Fat supplementation strategies for lactation efficiency His studies demonstrate how fatty acid blends (e.g., palmitic-oleic ratios) affect milk yield, body weight, and metabolic health across production stages. Awards and Recognition CANR Established Mid-Career Researcher Award (2024) Program Leadership Lock directs the Dairy Lipids Nutrition Program and Laboratory, focusing on analytical services and translational research linking animal science with human nutrition outcomes.
