University of California , Santa Barbara (UCSB)معرفی
Brandon Greene is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), with a joint appointment in Biomaterials Science and Engineering (BMSE). He leads the Greene Lab, which focuses on understanding non-equilibrium redox reactions in biological systems, particularly in water. His research bridges chemistry, biology, and physics to address challenges in bioenergy, biogeochemistry, and human health.
Dr. Greene holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Washington State University (2009) and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Emory University (2015), where he studied bioinorganic cofactors and photocatalysis. He completed postdoctoral research at Harvard University and MIT, investigating ribonucleotide reductase mechanisms under Daniel G. Nocera and JoAnne Stubbe.
His research emphasizes redox biology, including phosphorus redox cycling, electron bifurcation, and thiyl radical enzymes. The lab employs protein engineering, spectroscopy, electrochemistry, and structural analysis. Recent work includes developing phosphite quantitation assays and elucidating mechanisms of enzyme inhibition.
The Greene Lab has trained numerous students, including graduate and undergraduate researchers, who have pursued careers in academia, industry, and medicine. Notable alumni include Clara Bailey (EPFL postdoc) and Juan Carlos Caceres (MIT postdoc). Dr. Greene teaches CHEM 259 (Bioenergetics) and actively mentors through grants and outreach programs.
