Ricardo Resende serves as Assistant Professor and Deputy Director of the Department of Architecture and Urbanism at ISTAR-IUL (Institute of Social Sciences, Technology and Law Research), where he also coordinates the Science Area of Architectural Technology. As an Integrated Researcher at ISTAR-IUL, he leads the Digital Living Spaces research group, focusing on sustainable construction methodologies and digital transformation within the construction industry. His educational background includes a Civil Engineering degree (2000), Master's in Structural Engineering (2003), and PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Porto (2010). This strong technical foundation supports his research in Building Information Modeling (BIM), photogrammetry, sensorialization, and virtual/augmented reality applications in construction. Resende's research interests center around sustainable construction practices with emphasis on digital transformation of the construction industry. His work bridges theoretical research with practical applications, particularly in BIM-LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) integration, embodied carbon assessment, and smart building technologies. His publications demonstrate a consistent focus on environmental sustainability metrics within digital construction frameworks, with growing attention to circular economy principles in building design and renovation. Analysis of his recent publications reveals a clear research trajectory focused on integrating digital tools with sustainability metrics in construction. His work spans from fundamental BIM applications to advanced integrations with IoT sensor networks, VR/AR technologies, and life cycle assessment methodologies. A notable trend is the increasing sophistication of his research from basic BIM implementation to complex systems integrating environmental impact assessment with digital construction workflows. As coordinator of the Digital Living Spaces research group at ISTAR-IUL, Resende leads initiatives focused on applying digital technologies to create more sustainable built environments. His work connects architectural design with construction processes through advanced digital tools, creating bridges between theoretical research and practical industry applications in sustainable construction.
