Mr. Philip Phelps is a Lecturer in Music Technology at the Faculty of Environment and Technology (FET) - Computer Science and Creative Technologies department at the University of the West of England. His work spans electro-acoustic music, audio engineering, and sonic art, combining technical expertise in C/C++ programming for embedded systems with creative applications in virtual reality and interactive soundscapes. Research interests include: Interactive sonic art and augmented aurality "Sound you can walk inside" spatial audio experiences Sound design for games and audio software programming Retrocomputing and lo-fi digital aesthetics His publications focus on educational technology solutions like automated transcription systems and virtual reality audio reproduction. Scientific awards include being shortlisted for the 2010 PRS Foundation New Music Award. He co-leads creative projects such as The Quantock Poetry Trail and Virtual Avebury , and collaborates with artists like Luke Reed and Luke Child in the Dorkbot Bristol community, exploring hacker-maker-space culture and digital preservation techniques.
