Professor Zoë Skoulding holds the position of Professor of Poetry and Creative Writing, and Director of Research, Impact and Engagement at Bangor University's School of Literatures, Languages and Linguistics. She co-directs ContemPo, the Centre for Contemporary Poetry, and her research bridges creative practice with critical inquiry into ecopoetics, sonic environments, and translation. Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, including performances with artists and musicians across Europe, India, and Latin America.
Skoulding's academic contributions include monographs such as Poetry & Listening: The Noise of Lyric (2020) and Contemporary Women’s Poetry and Urban Space (2013). She has led significant projects like the AHRC-funded Poetry in Expanded Translation network (2017–2019), fostering international dialogue between poets, translators, and artists. Her creative works, such as Footnotes to Water (2019), explore ecological and urban themes, earning accolades like the Wales Book of the Year Poetry Award.
She is a Fellow of the English Association and has held editorial roles, including editorship of Poetry Wales (2008–2014). Her activities include public engagements, workshops with schools and communities, and international festivals. Skoulding’s research and creative output reflect a commitment to expanding poetry’s role in addressing environmental and cross-cultural challenges.
