Zita Toth is a Lecturer in Philosophy at King's College London, based in the Department of Philosophy within the Faculty of Arts & Humanities. She holds a PhD in Philosophy from Fordham University and has held postdoctoral positions at the University of Virginia, Indiana University Bloomington, and KU Leuven, Belgium before joining King's in 2022.
Her research focuses on later medieval philosophy, particularly metaphysical questions such as causation, divine concurrence, the nature of matter and form, and hylomorphism. She also explores transitions in natural philosophy leading into the Scientific Revolution. She is affiliated with the Research Centre for Late Antique and Medieval Studies, an interdisciplinary hub studying medieval history, philosophy, religion, and literature across Europe.
Her publications analyze topics like angelic materiality, medieval debates on divine dependence, and the theological implications of metaphysical doctrines. Recent work includes studies on Franciscan thinkers and the philosophical legacies of Aquinas and Ockham. She actively supervises research students in medieval philosophy and related areas.
Her teaching covers medieval philosophy and philosophy of religion, reflecting her expertise in historical and metaphysical traditions. She contributes to King’s interdisciplinary research environment, bridging medieval thought with contemporary philosophical inquiries.
