Zima Tomáš

Tomáš Zima is a full Professor of Medical Chemistry and Biochemistry at Charles University's First Faculty of Medicine. He has served as Rector of Charles University since 2014 and previously held leadership roles as Dean (2005-2012) and Vice-Dean (2012-2014) of the First Faculty of Medicine. Since 1999, he has led the Institute of Medical Chemistry and Laboratory Diagnostics at Charles University and General Teaching University Hospital in Prague.

Professor Zima's research spans multiple biomedical domains including advanced glycation end-products (AGEs), reactive oxygen species in tissue injury, prenatal screening, tumor markers, experimental nephrology, and laboratory accreditation. He has contributed extensively to clinical chemistry and laboratory diagnostics through research, teaching, and leadership.

As a clinician, he holds certifications in clinical chemistry, internal medicine, and nephrology, with the European Specialist title in Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine. His research team has participated in EU projects like FAIR-PARK II (Parkinson's disease) and SMARTDIAGNOS (sepsis diagnosis), while also leading the BBMRI_CZ biobank initiative.
