Ziad Munson is a Professor and Department Chair of the Sociology and Anthropology Department at Lehigh University. His research and teaching focus on social movements, political sociology, and the sociology of religion, with particular attention to abortion politics, conservative movements, and populist mobilization. He holds a PhD in Sociology from Harvard University (2002), preceded by an MA (1996) and BA (1993) from Harvard and the University of Chicago, respectively.

Munson's research explores the dynamics of social movements, particularly those with religious or politically conservative dimensions. His work includes analyzing the abortion debate's evolution, the rise of Trumpism in suburban America, and the mobilization strategies of the pro-life movement. He has also studied the Muslim Brotherhood, conservative campus organizing, and international terrorism, contributing to a broader understanding of political identity formation and ideological conflict.
His publications span interdisciplinary topics, including religion in disputes, civic engagement, and the sociology of terrorism. Recent articles focus on suburban populism, religious activism, and shifting political landscapes. Munson has received multiple research grants from Lehigh University and external bodies like the National Science Foundation. Beyond academia, he is an avid board game player and enjoys outdoor activities with his family in Emmaus, PA.
