Dr. Zhuo Wang is a Senior Lecturer at Aston University's School of Life & Health Sciences, part of the College of Health and Life Sciences. She leads the Biosciences Research Group (BRG) and focuses on transglutaminase-related research in fibrosis, cancer, and biomaterials. Her work spans over 13 years with expertise in protein crosslinking enzymes like TG2.
Education: PhD in Cell Biology (Aston University, 2010), MSc Clinical Immunology (Tianjin Medical University, 2006), and Bachelor in Clinical Medicine (Tianjin Medical University, 2003). She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Research Interests: Investigates TG2's role in ECM translocation, pathological angiogenesis (e.g., tumor environments), metastatic colon cancer, and fibrosis (lung, heart, cystic fibrosis). Explores TG2-crosslinked collagen as a wound healing and bone regeneration biomaterial.
Key Work: Developed TG2 inhibitors for fibrosis treatment, collaborated with UCB Cell-Tech, and secured funding via the Aston 50th Anniversary PhD studentship. Supervises one primary PhD student and co-supervises four others.
Teaching: Leads the MSc Cell Biology module. Active in advancing cell biology education through her academic fellowship.
