Zhibin Chen is a Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine. He also serves as the Director of the Graduate Program in Microbiology and Immunology.
- Education: MD from Luzhou Medical College (now Southwest Medical University), PhD from Duke University, Postdoctoral Fellowship at Harvard University
Dr. Chen's research bridges autoimmune disease mechanisms, infection, and cancer immunology, focusing on mucosal immunology and immune therapy. His lab investigates autoimmunity-driven tumorigenesis, inflammatory pathways, and immune cell dynamics in chronic inflammation and cancer evolution.
His recent work explores the role of CTLA4 insufficiency in cancer development and autoimmunity-mediated tumor killing, aligning with trends in inflammation-driven oncology and regulatory T cell interactions. Collaborations with computational biologists highlight his interdisciplinary approach.
- Research Award in Gastric Cancer, AGA
- R. Robert & Sally D. Funderburg Graduate Fellowship, Duke University
- Science and Technology Achievement Award, Yunnan Province and Chinese Academy of Science
Dr. Chen has directed the "Principles of Immunology" course for 15 years and advises PhD and MD/PhD students. His lab trains 25 PhD/MD/PhD students, emphasizing team science and translational research through intramural and extramural collaborations.
The Chen Lab at University of Miami studies autoimmunity and inflammation in tumorigenesis, developing novel animal models and mechanistic assays to link genetic discoveries to clinical pathophysiology.
