Dr. Ruby Dawson is an early-career researcher (ECR) at the South Australian Immunogenomics Cancer Institute (SAiGENCI) within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Adelaide. She holds a Postdoctoral Researcher position since 2024, focusing on tumour inflammation and immunotherapy. Previously, she was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Hudson Institute of Medical Research from 2019-2023.
Her research interests center on the roles of innate immune sensors in gastric cancer development and Helicobacter-induced gastric inflammation. Specifically, she investigates the function of the innate immune DNA sensor AIM2 in gastric inflammation and tumorigenesis. Her work bridges basic science with clinical applications in cancer immunotherapy.
Ruby's publication record includes two first-author papers in prestigious journals (Gut and Immunology and Cell Biology), along with co-authorship on multiple manuscripts exploring gastric cancer mechanisms, including a review on IL-6 family cytokines published in Cytokine and a book chapter in Elsevier's "Research and Clinical Applications of Targeting Gastric Neoplasms" series.
- United States Department of Defense Cancer Research Program Idea Award (2022)
She is actively engaged in the scientific community as an elected junior council member of the International Cytokine and Interferon Society (ICIS) and serves as an ECR representative on the Victorian Infection and Immunity Network (VIIN) Young Investigator Committee. Ruby is eligible to supervise Masters and PhD students as a Co-Supervisor and continues her research with funding from the United States Department of Defense Cancer Research Program.
