Zhao Yang's research focuses on molecular mechanisms of transcription factors in hepatic diseases and cardiometabolic effects of persistent organic pollutants such as PCB 126 and PFAS. His work explores how environmental toxins modulate metabolic pathways, including cholesterol metabolism and oxidative stress, and investigates proteomic interactions of detoxification enzymes like FMO3. Additional studies examine stress-sensing transcription factors (CREBH, ATF6) and their regulatory roles in autophagy and hepatic steatosis.

Recent publications highlight his expertise in environmental toxicology and metabolic disorder research. Key findings include PCB 126-induced endothelial dysfunction via 4-Hydroxy-2 Nonenal, PFAS effects on sex-dependent cholesterol metabolism, and CREBH's role in stress-induced hepatic steatosis.
