Zhao Tian

Dr. Zhao Tian is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, University of Adelaide, within the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from RMIT University (2007), following a Master’s from the University of New South Wales (2002) and a Bachelor’s from Shanghai Jiaotong University (1997). His research focuses on computational fluid dynamics (CFD), particularly in engineering combustion systems, solar-enhanced technologies, geothermal flows, and bioflows. He has contributed to projects funded by organizations like the Australian Research Council (ARC) and ARENA, including work on solar thermal integration and biocrude production via hydrothermal liquefaction.

Dr. Tian’s research interests span renewable energy systems, particle-laden flows, and combustion optimization. He teaches courses such as Computational Fluid Dynamics for Engineering Applications and Thermo-Fluids I. He actively participates in academic committees, including the International Conference on Computational Methods and the Building Energy & Environment Conference. His work emphasizes CFD applications in energy efficiency and sustainable technologies.

Notable grants include ARC Training Centre in Fire Retardant Materials (A$4.27M) and ARENA-funded solar alumina process integration (A$4.5M). His publications address particle dynamics, thermal performance, and fire safety, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to mechanical and energy systems.
