Zhanying Zhang

Professor Zhanying Zhang is a leading academic in Bioprocess Engineering at QUT’s School of Mechanical, Medical & Process Engineering and the Centre for Agriculture and the Bioeconomy. His expertise spans biorefining, lignocellulosic biomass conversion, and sustainable materials development. He holds a PhD from the University of Adelaide and has pioneered technologies for converting agricultural waste into high-value products like functional food ingredients and battery materials.

Research interests include lignocellulose valorization, nanocellulose synthesis, and carbon material development for energy storage. His work is supported by industry partners such as Syngenta and Sugar Research Australia. Notable achievements include the VC’s Award for Excellence in Innovation (2023) and a Faculty Research Excellence Award (2024).
