Zhang Chen serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Leadership and Organizational Management and Assistant Dean at Tsinghua University's School of Economics and Management. He earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Tsinghua University (where he was named Outstanding Graduate) and completed his PhD at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business.
His research centers on organizational behavior with specific expertise in job design and redesign, workplace time/energy management, and proactive organizational behavior. Current investigations examine how task sequencing affects workday well-being, the interplay between meetings and individual work on knowledge worker energy, and leadership emergence dynamics. His work bridges academic rigor with practical application through publications in top journals and Harvard Business Review practitioner articles.
Dr. Zhang teaches doctoral course 'Management Research Methods I' and undergraduate courses including 'Thinking and Doing in Management', which has been designated a Tsinghua University General Education Honors Course. He serves on Tsinghua's Online Teaching Expert Group and General Education Course Committee, having received multiple teaching awards including the University's Annual Teaching Excellence Award and Young Teacher Teaching Competition First Prize.
