张帏 is a Tenured Professor in the Department of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Strategy at Tsinghua University’s School of Economics and Management (SEM), where he also serves as Deputy Head of Department. In addition, he is Deputy Director of the China Entrepreneurship Research Center, founding director of Tsinghua x-lab, and holds multiple research affiliations across Tsinghua’s governance, private equity and economic research centers.

Research Focus: Professor Zhang’s work lies at the intersection of entrepreneurship management, venture capital and emerging industry development. His recent projects examine how digital technologies reshape business-model design for grand societal challenges, how legitimacy is built for new products in established markets, and the governance of entrepreneurial teams and venture-capital syndicates in China’s institutional context.
His scholarship has consistently explored institutional entrepreneurship, venture-financing ecosystems, and innovation policy, producing highly-cited studies on the emergence of China’s solar-PV industry and the evolution of its venture-capital system.

Advising & Grants: Professor Zhang has supervised numerous Ph.D. and master’s students whose theses have received university-wide distinctions. He leads or participates in national-level research grants on entrepreneurship education reform and innovation-driven development strategies. Under his guidance, Tsinghua student teams have won international business-plan competitions (Intel-Berkeley, USF, Bangkok) and launched ventures now tracked as benchmark cases.
Laboratory & Teams: As the founding director of Tsinghua x-lab—the university’s first university-wide platform for creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship—he oversees an ecosystem that connects students, alumni, faculty and industry mentors. He also heads the Faculty Representative Group of SEM’s 9th Faculty Representative Conference, shaping governance and strategic initiatives at the school level.
