Zavier Nunn is an Assistant Professor of History and Gender and Sexuality Studies at Northwestern University. He is affiliated with the Material History Lab and holds a DPhil in History from the University of Oxford (2023). His research focuses on trans subjectivity, medical/legal governance of sex change, and intersections of gender non-conformity with social utility in Weimar and Nazi Germany.
Research Interests: Nunn challenges paradigms in trans history by emphasizing labor productivity, sexuality, and race as forces shaping medical and legal transitions. His current projects include Sex Changes (arguing for sex as a mutable historical construct) and Sex from the Outside (analyzing bureaucratic sex classification in Germany).
