Zara M. Scribner serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Law and Philosophy at the United States Military Academy (West Point), teaching the National Security Law elective (LW482). Her academic appointment follows a distinguished 10-year career as a U.S. Army Judge Advocate with diverse operational legal experience across multiple divisions and commands.
Her educational background includes:
- Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Contract and Fiscal Law from The Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School
- Master of Laws (LL.M.) in National Security Law from the University of Virginia School of Law
- Juris Doctor from Pace University School of Law
- Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri (2007)
Professor Scribner's research focuses on national security law frameworks, military contract procurement systems, and fiscal compliance within defense operations. Her dual LL.M. credentials and frontline military legal experience provide unique insights into the intersection of operational law and national defense policy, particularly regarding administrative law challenges in theater operations.
She maintains active legal credentials as a member of the New York Bar and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. Her professional trajectory bridges military service, civilian legal practice (including tax law in New York 2012-2014), and journalism/merchandising experience in the fashion industry prior to her legal career.
