Dr Zara Dinnen is a Senior Lecturer in Contemporary Literature at Queen Mary University of London's School of English and Drama. She holds a BA in English and History of Art from the University of Leeds, an MA in American Culture from the same institution, and a PhD in English from Birkbeck, University of London. Her teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate courses on contemporary literature and digital culture, including modules like ESH293: The Long Contemporary and ESH7010: The State of the Novel.
Her research focuses on intersections between digital media, new technologies, and their representations in literature and popular culture. Key themes include the 'digital banal,' user-subjectivity in digital environments, and reparative affects in UK culture. She has organized a Tate Modern course on new media art (2019) and serves as associate editor for ASAP Journal. Since 2022, she has co-chaired the QMUCU branch.
Her publications span monographs, edited volumes, and peer-reviewed articles exploring digital culture's impact on narrative forms and societal structures. She actively engages with public-facing scholarship through interviews and collaborative projects with artists and institutions.
