Zana Vathi is a Reader in Social Sciences at Edge Hill University's History, Geography & Social Sciences department, affiliated with the Health Research Institute. She specializes in migration studies, focusing on international migration, transnational ties, urban space, and migration policies. Prior to Edge Hill, she worked at the University of Sussex and contributed to the TIES EU project. She directs the Migration Working Group North West, fostering collaboration among migration stakeholders in the UK's northwest.
Education & Research: Holds a PhD in migration studies, awarded the 2012 IMISCOE Maria Ioannis Baganha Prize. Her research explores cross-generational migration, urban belongingness, and return migration geopolitics. Funded projects include studies on Roma returnees (World Bank), post-Brexit EU migrants, and urban migration aesthetics (British Academy).
Research Interests: Vathi's work bridges migration studies with urban sociology and policy analysis, emphasizing psychosocial wellbeing, transnational identities, and spatial integration. Recent topics include migration stigma, refugee inclusion, and diaspora political mobilization post-Brexit.
