Dr NIROSHAN RAMACHANDRAN is a Senior Lecturer in Human Geography at Edge Hill University since January 2024. Previously held roles include Lecturer in Criminology/Human Geography (2020-2024), Associate Tutor (2020/21), and Graduate Teaching Assistant (2017-2020). Holds a PhD in Sociology from Edge Hill University (2021), MA in Social Work (University of Lincoln, 2016), and BA in Social Work (National Institute of Social Development, 2012).
Research focuses on social protection mechanisms for asylum seekers/refugees in host countries, with expertise in qualitative methods. Key areas include forced migration, asylum system vulnerabilities, and urban inclusion strategies. His landmark doctoral thesis explored Glasgow's asylum seeker experiences through semi-structured interviews and participant observation.
Recent publications analyze Glasgow's migrant inclusivity, UK asylum destitution, and cross-country migration policies. Active in policy-oriented research with 9 peer-reviewed articles between 2021-2025. Collaborations include presentations at academic conferences and invited talks on migrant integration and refugee agency.
