Zachary Wilson serves as Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Music at Towson University's College of Fine Arts and Communication. A Maryland-based performer and educator, he specializes in percussion, chamber music, musical theater, and the marching arts with extensive professional experience across major U.S. venues.
His educational background includes:
- Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Percussion Performance, University of Maryland (current)
- Master of Music, Penn State University (2023)
- Bachelor of Music, Towson University (2020)
Wilson's research centers on Postminimalist percussion music and adapting J.S. Bach's works for vibraphone. He has commissioned and premiered over thirty new percussion compositions, actively promoting underrepresented artists through Matchstick Percussion's commissioning initiatives and educational outreach programs.
As an educator, he served as Graduate Assistant for the Penn State Blue Band (2023 Rose Bowl), and teaches Maryland high school drumlines where students achieve superior ratings at state competitions and pursue music degrees.
Wilson performs with ensembles including Glass Trees (Pierrot+percussion contemporary group) and Matchstick Percussion (founding member), with credits spanning Kennedy Center, MASS MoCA, Hirshhorn Museum, and international festivals.
