Michelle Humphreys is an Assistant Professor of Percussion and Coordinator of Percussion at Towson University's Department of Music within the College of Fine Arts and Communication. She is an active performer specializing in Baroque and modern music, playing percussion and timpani with ensembles including Opera Lafayette, Tempesta di Mare, Washington Bach Consort, and Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra, with reviews noting her as "musically outstanding and visually delightful" and for making "the intent of the music come to life".
Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Music from Towson University, a Master of Music from the Eastman School of Music, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Maryland College Park. As an educator, she serves on the artist faculty of the National Music Festival, is a member of the Vic Firth Education Team, and endorses Grover Pro Percussion and Zildjian Cymbals.
Dr. Humphreys' research and performance interests center on percussion techniques across historical periods, with significant contributions to Baroque repertoire through recordings of French operas for Naxos—including modern premieres like Rebel’s Zelindor, Roi de Sylphes and Monsigny’s Le Roi et le Fermier—as well as Chandos releases Comédie et Tragédie Volumes 1 and 2 and Telemann – The Concerti-En-Suite.
Her professional activities extend to frequent clinician work and artistic endorsements, reflecting her commitment to percussion education. Outside her academic and performance career, she enjoys long walks, cycling, and petting neighborhood dogs.
