Yuxin Ma is a Professor of East Asian History at the University of Louisville, affiliated with the Department of History. She holds a Ph.D. in History from the University of Minnesota (2003). Her expertise spans Modern Chinese history, East Asian women’s history, Japanese imperialism, and film history. Dr. Ma teaches survey courses on late imperial China, modern China, modern Japan, and specialized courses on East Asian women’s history and Japanese Imperialism.
Her research includes two major publications: Colonial Tactics and Everyday Life: Film Workers at Manchuria Film Association (2023) and Women Journalism and Feminism in China, 1898-1937 (2010). Current research focuses on sport culture and women athletes in contemporary China. She serves as Editor-in-Chief of the American Review of China Studies.
Dr. Ma has authored over a dozen articles and book chapters on women’s history, film history, and media studies. Her work bridges cultural history with interdisciplinary approaches to colonialism, gender, and media.
