Man Xu is an Associate Professor at Tufts University in the Department of History within the School of Arts and Sciences. Their research focuses on Middle Period China and Late Imperial China, with particular emphasis on Women's History and the History of Material Culture.

Xu's work explores the intersection of gender, family structures, and material artifacts in medieval China. They have published extensively on Song Dynasty women, using unconventional sources like epitaphs, archaeological reports, and museum collections to reconstruct everyday life experiences. Recent projects examine gendered spaces in tombs and encyclopedic knowledge in late imperial China.
Key publications include the book Crossing the Gate: Women’s Everyday Lives in Song Dynasty China (2016) and chapters on epitaph analysis. Their work has been supported by CHAt Faculty Fellowships and Summer Research Fellowships at Tufts.
