Yulia Merkoulova is a Professor of Finance in the Department of Banking and Finance at Monash University. She holds a PhD from Erasmus University Rotterdam and has held academic positions at Erasmus University, University of Stirling, and University of Glasgow, with visiting roles in the US and Canada. Her research focuses on corporate finance, behavioral finance, derivatives, and mergers & acquisitions, published in top journals like Journal of Financial Economics and Journal of Banking and Finance.
She actively supervises PhD, MSc, and Honours students, having advised over 50 dissertations. Key research themes include executive compensation, credit risk, board networks, and household finance. Merkoulova is a Chief Investigator in the Building 4.0 CRC, a collaborative research project addressing building efficiency through technology (2020–2027).
Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals by addressing economic equity and sustainable practices. Recent studies explore CEO innovation impact, social mobility through historical accounting data, and credit risk linked to executive legal expertise.
