Yufeng Mao, PhD, is an Associate Professor of History at Widener University. He holds a PhD in East Asian History from George Washington University (2007), an MA in Arab Studies from Georgetown University (2000), and a BA in Arabic from Beijing Foreign Studies University. His research focuses on modern Chinese history, race/ethnicity, and transnational history, with a current book project on the history of Muslims in China. He actively engages students through participatory teaching methods and has received grants supporting his research and pedagogy.
Research Interests: Dr. Mao explores how Muslim communities in China navigated state policies and global influences, particularly during the late Qing and Republican eras. His work bridges transnational and local perspectives, analyzing themes like identity formation, religious adaptation, and education reform. He emphasizes critical analysis and evidence-based argumentation in his teaching.
