Chang Xu is an Assistant Professor of Transnational Asian Studies at Rice University's Department of Transnational Asian Studies. Her research focuses on early modern Chinese history, particularly the global history of medicine, military science and technologies, and the interplay between bodily experiences and governance. She is currently completing her first book, Medicine on the March: Military Institutions, Medical Networks, and the Qing Empire, 1644-1800, which examines medical practices in Qing garrisons during territorial expansion. Ongoing projects include studies on Euro-Asian medical exchanges, Manchu medical texts, and legal disputes over medical practices in early modern China.
