Yu Zheng is an Associate Professor in the School of Economics and Finance at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) and a Research Affiliate at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR). She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Washington University in St. Louis and was a Max Weber Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence. Her research focuses on economic growth, development, and inequality, with particular emphasis on human and intangible capital’s roles in shaping these phenomena. She has also explored topics such as consumption insurance in China, labor market dynamics, and the aggregate implications of micro-level risks.
Key areas of research include the interplay between education signaling and wage premiums, the impact of intellectual property capital on labor shares, and the economic consequences of hospitalizations for older workers. Her work combines theoretical models with empirical analysis, often utilizing novel datasets and econometric techniques. She has organized workshops such as the QMUL-SUFE Economics Workshop series, fostering collaboration between institutions.
