Yu-Ping Chen is an Associate Professor of Management at Concordia University's John Molson School of Business, holding the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) Professorship in Work Motivation. He also serves as the Director of the International Business (IBUS) Program and IBUS Co-Op Program. Dr. Chen joined the John Molson School of Business in 2012 after completing his PhD at the Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Dr. Chen's educational background includes:
- PhD in Management Science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
- MA in Human Resource and Industrial Relations from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities
- BBA in International Business from National Taiwan University
Dr. Chen's research focuses on global work experiences, including corporate expatriates, self-initiated expatriates, and international business travelers. His work explores cross-cultural management, interpersonal relationships at work, work motivation, and work-family issues. More recently, he has expanded his research to examine employees' reactions towards HR algorithmic management. His interdisciplinary approach bridges organizational behavior, international business, and human resource management to address contemporary workplace challenges in our increasingly globalized world.
His extensive publication record demonstrates a consistent focus on international work experiences and cross-cultural dynamics. Dr. Chen's research often examines the interplay between individual characteristics, organizational contexts, and cultural environments. His work frequently appears in top-tier journals across organizational behavior, international business, and human resource management fields, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of his research interests.

His teaching portfolio includes courses on Compensation and Benefits Management, Staffing and Career Management, Motivation, Evaluation, Compensation, and Rewards, as well as seminars in Organizational Behavior. Dr. Chen serves as an associate editor at the Journal of Global Mobility, demonstrating his influence in the field of international business and global mobility research.
