Jun Chen is an Associate Professor in the College of Business at North Dakota State University specializing in Transportation, Logistics and Finance. His research examines finance as a mechanism reallocating economic value through time, risk, and capital.
Education:
- PhD from University of North Carolina
- MS in Accounting from Shanghi University of Finance and Economics
- BS in International Business Administration from Shanghi University of Finance and Economics
Dr. Chen's research spans Corporate Finance, Investments, and Fixed Income Securities with specific focus on bond contracts, covenant structures, M&As, corporate hedging, and fund performance. Current projects investigate how local gambling preferences influence merger decisions, de-risking strategies in corporate pension plans, and non-executive equity holding effects on debt valuation. He collaborates on multidisciplinary projects with MIS and organizational behavior faculty.
Scientific Awards:

- Eastern Finance Association Best Paper in Special Topic
Dr. Chen secured research grants from the Society of Actuaries and American Finance Association. He teaches Principles of Finance and Options, Futures and Other Derivatives, contributing to finance education through his research on how financial mechanisms reshape economic development.
