Dr. Yu Aoki is an Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in Economics at the University of Aberdeen's Business School and an IZA Research Fellow. She also contributes to the Health Economics Research Unit. Her research focuses on labour and health economics, particularly the social integration of immigrants through language skills and the effects of fast-food access on youth body weights. She holds an MSc and PhD in Economics from the University of Warwick.
Teaching responsibilities include quantitative methods and health economics courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She supervises PhD students in Economics and actively engages in interdisciplinary research through affiliations like the Centre for Labour Market Research and the Africa-Asia Centre for Sustainability. Her work employs applied micro-econometric methods to address policy-relevant questions in social and health economics.
Recent publications analyze residential clustering of immigrants linked to English proficiency and the intergenerational mobility of disadvantaged groups. Current projects investigate causal impacts of language skills on education, health, and residential outcomes, as well as fast-food availability's influence on adolescent weight trends.
Dr. Aoki's research has been published in journals like Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization and Labour Economics. She participates in initiatives addressing modern slavery and corporate accountability in global supply chains.
