Lillian Aoki is an Assistant Professor in the Environmental Studies department at the University of Oregon, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences and the Data Science Initiative. Her research focuses on coastal ecology, ecosystem resilience, and restoration under anthropogenic and global change.
- B.A. in Chemistry and History, Cornell University, 2012
- Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences, University of Virginia, 2018
Dr. Aoki's work integrates data across spatial and temporal scales to examine coastal ecosystem dynamics. Her expertise includes seagrass meadow resilience, nitrogen cycling, marine heatwave impacts, and AI-driven environmental monitoring tools like EeLISA. She employs UAV imaging and field surveys to study disease transmission, carbon sequestration, and restoration success.
Recent publications highlight partnerships between AI and coastal ecology, disease dynamics in seagrass under climate stress, and cross-scale resilience metrics. Her lab at UO emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration and open science practices.
- NSF Graduate Research Fellowship
Prospective lab members and students are encouraged to contact Dr. Aoki via email. Her outreach includes research dissemination and policy engagement through programs like the Association of American Universities.
