Katrin Rehlmeyer

Katrin Rehlmeyer is a Research Fellow at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Science and Engineering, affiliated with the Govers group specializing in Marine Conservation Ecology. She holds a Master of Science degree and currently serves as a Postdoctoral researcher focused on marine ecosystem restoration.

Her research centers on marine conservation challenges, with primary expertise in:

• Seagrass ecology and restoration in the Wadden Sea
• Eelgrass (Zostera spp.) response to environmental stressors
• Mutualistic interactions in coastal ecosystems
• Wetland plant physiology under changing climate conditions
• Conservation strategies for vulnerable marine vegetation

Her recent publications (2022-2024) demonstrate a strong interdisciplinary focus, bridging marine ecology, plant physiology, and conservation science. Research consistently addresses anthropogenic impacts on coastal ecosystems, with particular emphasis on restoration techniques for degraded habitats, physiological responses to temperature stress, and biochemical tolerance mechanisms in aquatic plants.

She actively contributes to knowledge dissemination through conference presentations at events like the Netherlands Annual Ecology Meeting and organization of specialized workshops including the Coastal Ecology Workshop. Her research has garnered significant media attention, featuring in Dutch science communication platforms highlighting Wadden Sea restoration challenges.

As part of the 'Waddentools - Waddenmozaïek' project (2019-2024), she investigated habitat restoration strategies for seagrass meadows, sediments, and hard substrates in the Wadden Sea.
