Young-ok An is an Associate Professor of English Education at the University of St. Thomas, part of the College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a PhD from the University of Southern California and advanced degrees from Seoul National University, Korea. Her expertise spans British Romanticism, 18th-19th century women writers, and feminist/gender theory, engaging deeply with critical frameworks like Deleuze, Lacan, and postcolonial thought.
Her research focuses on reconfiguring Romantic-era texts through psychoanalytic and feminist lenses, with a particular emphasis on figures like Blake, the Shelleys, Byron, Hemans, and Landon. Current projects examine Promethean themes and cross-cultural narratives. She teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on Romanticism, women’s literature, and literary theory.
Her publications analyze intersections of gender, power, and transnational influences in Romantic works, including studies of Byron’s mythopoeic poetics and Hemans’ domestic sublime. Presentations span international conferences on Byron, Shelley, and transnational literary exchange.
